A good cappuccino is not hard to find
Speaking of yesterday ... it was altogether ok. I went back to the clinic to complete my pre-employment physical. I had a vision test, hearing test, x-rays, ultrasound, ECG, and blood tests. this was all conducted at the Al Warood Medical Center, which seems to be a general purpose medical clinic, with two floors and lots of diagnostic departments. All of the nurses were Filipino and were very nice. My impression generally is that although the general cleanliness of the facility is not up to US standards, still it was a pretty good facility.
After struggling to stay awake I went out for a walk, and went to the shopping mall beneath the Kingdom Center. I guess shopping malls the world over tend to look the same, and even have the same shops. If you look closely, you can see the H&M logo on one of the stores.
There was an interesting exhibit of art there, but the description of it was all in Arabic. I thought the pictures were pretty nice.

Life Is a Either a Daring Adventure or Nothing - Helen Keller
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure."
I really admire Helen Keller...

More on the Solar Decathlon
Here is an in-depth article on the results of this year’s Solar Decathlon
Spoiler alert: it says that Team Austria won overall, although the whole competition was very close. I was not that happy with the Team Austria house, but mainly probably because they kept people waiting for 30 minutes to go in, and once you got in there was nobody but students inside. I also thought their textile exterior curtain would not last too long in the real world. But it was nevertheless interesting, as were all the houses I visited.
I got my Saudi employment visa!
It took 11 weeks to get the invitation letter, but once I got it and submitted it to the Saudi Embassy, I got the visa in only 8 business days.

Solar Decathlon 2013
The Solar Decathlon is a contest between college teams to design homes for sustainable living. They are scored in 10 different categories including energy efficiency, affordability, comfort, amenities and entertainment (each team hosts a dinner party for one or two other teams as part of the contest).
